  • This blew me away in terms of its quality for a Pokemon ROM hack. Here's a quick pros and cons break down.

    Pros:
-Remarkable story that utilizes fan theories as its basis. I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't elaborate.
-Well-written dialogue and tone that establishes its gangster attitude and mature themes without relying on excessive vulgarity and gore (like other ROM hacks).
-Stealing system is really fun and encourages you to use a variety of Pokemon instead of your go-to favorites.
-Fair difficulty curve that doesn't force you to grind, but keeps your Pokemon on equal footing with your opponents.
-Adds fairy type and level up evolutions for trade evolution pokemon.

    Cons:
-Morality system was a half-baked idea. It either limits or rewards you, but there are so many ways to game the system and no long-term consequences. I recommend just going full evil mode.
-I personally had a few crashes in battles. No major data losses since I saved a lot, but keep that in mind.
-Little to do in post-game due to lack of Pokedex or new trainers. You can catch the legendaries you couldn't get in the story and then you've done just about everything.

I hope this review answers some questions and encourages you to play it. I highly recommend going in blind. If you're a Pokemon fan like me, you'll throughly enjoy Pokemon FireRed: Rocket Edition!
